HLA acquires Hospital La Salud for nearly €4 million
The HLA hospital group (Asisa) has acquired Hospital La Salud in Cádiz from the Alter Capital fund and other shareholders. The transaction, finalized this Friday, closed at nearly €4 million, according to sources close to the deal. The hospital, with 40 beds, expands HLA’s offering in Andalusia. HLA ranks third in the region in terms of hospital group revenue, after QuirónSalud and Vithas.
Previous ownership and legal advisory for the transaction
Hospital La Salud in Cádiz was previously owned by the Alter Capital fund (62%), whose managing partner is Ángel González Bravo; Alejandro González; and Ángel Coronado, former director of the hospital. Garrigues, through partner Luis Collado, provided legal advisory services to the hospital and the sellers. Uría, in turn, advised the Asisa group.
Asisa integra el centro en el Grupo HLA para reforzar su red asistencial
“Asisa has taken a further step in expanding its healthcare network in Andalusia with the acquisition of the hospital in Cádiz, which will be integrated into the HLA Group. With the addition of this clinic, a reference center in private healthcare in Cádiz, Asisa strengthens its own network, expands its medical staff, and improves the quality of care provided to its insured and patients,” the company stated.
A growing hospital with significant recent investments
"The Hospital La Salud is a center in full growth process after the implementation in recent years of an investment plan that allowed to increase its facilities by 25% (up to 5,000 square meters) and renew some units such as ICUs, outpatient consultations, diagnostic tests or part of its 40 rooms. In the last two years, new specialty units and the international department have been put in place. In total, the hospital has more than 40 medical specialties," Asisa reports.
Asisa’s growth strategy in Cádiz and service expansion
The integration of Hospital La Salud into the Asisa group “is part of the strategic plans the company is developing to grow and strengthen its presence in Cádiz, where it maintains HLA Jerez Puerta del Sur as a reference hospital. Additionally, at the end of 2018, Asisa incorporated Clínica Dr. Lobatón into its own healthcare network, a prestigious medical center that has since expanded its services and specialties. Moreover, Oftalvist, the ophthalmology company of the Asisa Group, operates eight clinics in the province. The HLA group, owned by Asisa, whose regional director in Andalusia is Valeriano Torres, operated six hospitals in the autonomous community in 2019, totaling 615 beds: Mediterráneo (Almería), Inmaculada (Granada), Él Ángel (Málaga), Santa Isabel (Seville), Jerez Puerta del Sur (Cádiz), and Los Naranjos (Huelva). HLA’s private hospitals in the region provide 615 beds and employ 1,500 people. In addition to these six hospitals, the group also operates fourteen medical centers, polyclinics, and clinics in Jaén, Córdoba, Almería, Seville, Cádiz, Huelva, and Málaga.
Alter Capital’s activity and portfolio after the sale
Alter Capital Desarrollo is the only Andalusian venture capital manager registered with the CNMV and headquartered in Seville, 95% owned by Ángel González Bravo. After selling the 62% stake in Hospital La Salud, Alter Capital retains 15% of Clever Global, listed on the Alternative Stock Market (MAB) and specialized in subcontractor management for large-scale construction projects via proprietary software; and 35% of Dental Company, headquartered in Seville with 95 centers across Spain (30 of them directly owned), making it the fourth largest company in the national sector.
